If you are looking for 'the one' place that meets your Fall Orchard needs, Belkin Family Look-Out Farm is probably it. One of the closest places to Boston, their vision is to be the #1 healthy, outdoor, family fun destination in the Boston and metrowest area. Almost an orchard/amusement park hybrid. Belkin pretty much has all the activities and features you might like in an orchard - hayrides, pumpkins, train, maze, 2 petting zoos, hay pile, bees, playground, and live entertainment on weekends - you name it, you can pretty much count on Belkin having it. While the farm was established in 1651, it has been under new ownership since Steve & Joan Belkin bought the farm in 2005 (it used to be called the Marino Look Out Farm) and the improvements and growth are substantial.
You should keep in mind that everything that is good about Belkin, does have its drawbacks. Closer to Boston means more people and larger crowds. Having a zoo, maze, train, playground means more for kids to do, but also more 'excitement', noise, and craziness. If you are looking for a great one-stop place and are ok with it being a bit more crowded and noisy - Belkin is great. If you are looking for a more traditional peaceful 'walk in the orchard' New England Apple Picking experience, other places will better meet your needs.
In short, Belkin is best for families with kids who don't want or cannot handle a longer drive and need entertainment and the full experience. Definitely not a 'take a date and have a picnic in the apple orchard' place. Weeekdays are definitely less crowded than weekends. If going on a weekend and you want to avoid the heavier crowds--arrive early!
A few other items of note: Senior discounts on Mondays, Frequent Shopper discounts, and Weekly Farm Market Specials. They also have a Frequent Shopper Card: after 10 purchases of $10 or more you get $5 worth of market items on your next visit. And, the farm makes it's own brand of artisinal gelato!

Dowse Orchards is a great place for families in the Boston area to come and visit. Come and learn of our agriculture and history, as they have been operating in the Sherborn location for 200 years and are a Massachusetts Century Farm. Dowse Farm produces apples, vegetables, greenhouse Crops, flowers, christmas trees and pumpkins, to name just a few. We have operated a roadside farm stand for more than 60 years, selling the products we raise on a seasonal basis.
Today's farms are becoming more diversified, and our farm now offers more than just fruit and vegetables. You will find brilliant spring flowers grown in our greenhouses, a wide selection of popular perennials, seasonal fresh harvest vegetables, our many kinds of apples, and the freshest Christmas trees ready for you to cut. Our Farm Stand also offers maple syrup, our own line of preserves, gift baskets, sweet apple cider pressed fresh every week, and of course our apples. McIntosh, Cortland, and Macoun are among the many favorites of the more than 20 varieties we raise.
Our season starts in May with annuals and flowers grown in our greenhouses, and fresh vegetables from the gardens soon follow. In September we offer pumpkins by the thousands, hardy mums for all your decorations, and our fields are open for Pick-Your-Own apples. The Cider Mill is in full operation squeezing fresh apples into the best tasting fresh cider you can find. In December we finish our season with Christmas trees and Holiday Baskets. Come and join in the fun - enjoy a cup of homemade hot mulled cider while you select your Christmas tree from the field where it grows. We also schedule school tours for area children during the fall and provide information about our farm and the tools we need to operate it, including information about modern pest control methods known as IPM.
So when you visit the Boston area, remind yourself to stop by Dowse Orchards and our roadside farm stand. You are sure to enjoy the visit and the many products we have to offer! We hope you enjoy your visit to our website and will come back often to check on our progress and the development of our crops.
